If you’re looking to take a last-minute late summer vacation, there are plenty of ways to make it a great one. Family vacations are an amazing way to build lasting memories and take the whole family out for an adventure. But this summer, drive instead of fly to your destination for the following reasons!
Driving is Cheaper Than Flying
One of the most obvious reasons to drive instead of fly on your next family vacation is the lower travel costs. For a family of four, airfare can get into the thousands, even for just a quick jog from state to state. According to US News and World Report, the average domestic airline ticket is $379. Multiply that by how many people are going on your vacation and you can quickly see why driving is much more budget-friendly.
To get the most bang for your buck on your next family vacation, drive in a car with great MPG. Some of today’s models, like the new Chevy Cruze, can get up to 40 MPG on the highway. And that’s not even including hybrids! Cars like the Toyota Prius can get up to 70 miles per gallon on a road trip.
Air Travel is Hectic
Not only is air travel more expensive than driving, but it’s also more stressful! No parent enjoys toting around crying toddlers in a crowded airport while rushing to catch a flight. The food options are limited (and expensive), the airport is crowded, and at least one person in the family is bound to forget something. In fact, according to Travel and Leisure, about 9 million more people are expected to fly this summer compared to last. That’s a lot of crowds to get through!
Save this hassle by driving instead. Rather than fighting the crowds in the airport, face the open road with just you and your family. If you’re headed out on a route that’s bound to have traffic, plan your trip accordingly and drive to drive at odd times of the day or night. For example, you can spend the day exploring the city and hit the road late at night to avoid rush hour traffic.
You Can Bring More Things
We’ve all been there: we are going on a flight and can’t bring our favorite shampoo, face wash, snacks, and other necessities due to carry-on restrictions and size limitations. This can be extremely hard, especially for a family on a long vacation. But when you drive, you have the whole car to fill up with things to take along. Not only will you have more room to pack everything that you want, but you’ll also have plenty of space to bring back souvenirs for friends and family. Plus, you won’t have to worry about those pesky little 3 oz shampoo bottles!
The Vacation is a Journey, Not Just a Destination
One of the best things about driving instead of flying is that you and your family can spend more time enjoying the journey, as well as the destination. Some of the best family memories are made in the car, so take the whole family on a road trip to bond along the way. You can make plenty of pit stops to have even more fun.
Driving instead of flying on your next family vacation will help you save money and bond with your kids. Consider a road trip for your next getaway!
After a long day being after the kids, working or hours spent tackling life’s to-do lists, we’re all looking for the best way to de-stress and relax. In other words, as parents, all need our “me” time. Usually, for me, this might mean cuddling up […]
