Resolutions on health are made every New Year. Families are eager to achieve a healthy lifestyle, which will lead to abandoning habits that negatively impact their physical and mental well-being or improve physical fitness levels. As much as maintaining optimal health is suitable for your well-being, it also affects one’s ability to achieve their set goals.
This year it will not be different, but there is a twist to everything. Across the globe, lives have been upended since the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic. It has changed how we interact, work, and learn as social distance forced us to embrace the virtual existence both professionally and personally. The changes are overwhelming.
Here are guidelines for staying healthy as a family in the New Year amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Two factors affect the health status of a person. The food they eat and their immune system. If your diet is lacking, nothing can be done to make you healthy. A healthy diet will boost your family’s immune system, which is the only thing that will help your family in fighting all sorts of diseases, including coronavirus. To achieve an excellent immune system, you will need to add to your family’s diet foods rich in minerals, proteins, and the best natural vitamins. This will boost the innate immunity and provide you with energy to avoid depression caused by the pandemic.
Practice better hand hygiene
The best way to stop the spread of diseases is through frequent hand washing. Make handwashing a family ritual that is to be observed every often, apart from the regular times of visiting the toilet or before and after a meal. Children have the poorest handwashing practice. They will need frequent practice and reminders. Sing rhymes to help them remember the importance of handwashing or wash up together.
Take lots of water to stay hydrated during the day. A well-hydrated body keeps the biological functions running well as well as prevent overheating. The actual amount of water to be consumed varies from person to person. Drinking water is not the only way to get the body hydrated. The body can get fluids from some of the foods we eat, like vegetables and fruits consumed.
Create a timetable for physical fitness. It would be best if you did not exercise only when you feel like it because this will limit you from achieving your fitness levels. It is easy to commit to exercising if you have a schedule and workout every week. Exercising makes your family fit and ensures blood is well circulated in the body to get rid of toxins. Thirty minutes of exercise will help keep your family fit and healthy during the covid-19 pandemic.
Get a good night’s rest
A poor night’s sleep will not only leave your family feeling lethargic during the day; it also increases their vulnerability to falling ill. Sleep helps in healing the body. If one does not get enough sleep, the body’s ability to fight infections and stay well is impaired. A good night’s sleep should last at least 7 hours a night to help the body recuperate.
Fun time as a family
Indoor fun times can include playing active games or running up-and-down the stairs for cardio workouts. You can also practice martial arts, yoga, or try a new recipe. Involve the children in the decision by asking for their suggestions. This will ensure they are interested in and stick to the family’s health routines.
Health is crucial for a family’s physical well-being; it improves the family’s productivity, income, and lowers the family expenses. It ensures family members serve each other well.
